Michigan State, Michigan Get Wolverine State Off To Terrible Start To 2011 In Bowl Games

2010 may have been one of the better years for the Big Ten’s two Michigan schools: Michigan State lost just one game and tied for the Big Ten title, while Michigan returned to bowl eligibility behind the electrifying Denard Robinson. Heading into 2011, everything was coming up Milhouse for the Wolverine State’s flagship schools.

↵Then New Year’s Day 2011 happened.

↵

In the Capital One Bowl, Alabama ran out to a 49-0 lead before a garbage time touchdown cut the Crimson Tide lead to its final 49-7 margin over the Spartans. In the Gator Bowl, the Wolverines allowed Mississippi State to score 52 points — its first output of over 50 points since 2001 — in a dismal 52-14 defeat that may have sealed Rich Rodriguez' fate as Michigan coach.

↵That’s an aggregate 101-21 margin in favor of the SEC teams — SEC West teams, to be specific — over the state of Michigan. It’s bad. And it’s definitely not the start that Michigan State or Michigan would have wanted for 2011.
