When the NCAA declared Cam Newton eligible despite the proof that his father had violated bylaws in seeking cash payments in exchange for his committment to play football, there were many who claimed that it was a transparent concession to greed. Violations aside, without Cam Newton eligible, the NCAA’s National Title game would be decimated.

↵Early indications have measured Monday night’s BCS Championship Game as the most watched broadcast in cable television history. It’s not terribly surprising to industry experts--this is the first time a game so prestigious has been broadcast on cable TV--but even so. Nothing on cable has ever been watched as much as the 2011 BCS Title Game. Predicted or not, that’s insane.
