Nate Whitaker chose a bad time to have the worst day of his place-kicking life. So far in the Orange Bowl, Whitaker has already missed two extra points. The first one was a block, and the second he just shanked to the right.
Stanford Kicker Misses Two Orange Bowl Extra Points: No, Your Bets Aren’t Affected
The missed PATs were Whitaker’s fourth and fifth of the season, and it’s actually the second time he’s missed two extra points. The first time was when he missed two of ten in Stanford’s 68-24 annihilation of Wake Forest, which is at-least better percentage-wise. Not to mention there’s a case to be made that Whitaker was simply getting tired against the Deacons.
Technically, the missed points keep Virginia Tech from needing a pair of two-point conversions to catch up with the Cardinal. But the way things are going right now, the two-point conversions would be the easiest part for the Hokies; reaching the end zone again is going to prove the real problem.
And just to answer your question: The line on the game is 3.5. The way things are going right now, two missed points aren’t going to hold the margin down enough to matter. Not that we would condone gambling or such conspiracy theories.
