Though the nation’s No. 1 prospect, South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney, is likely to end up a member of the South Carolina Gamecocks, he’s not announcing his decision until well after National Signing Day. The terrifying force from Rock Hill is expected to wait until Feb. 14 to announce whether he’ll be among the stream of talent heading into the SEC this year.
National Signing Day: Curtis Grant, Cyrus Kouandjio Could Sign With SEC Teams On Wednesday
But there are still plenty of top recruits who will be announcing their college choices on Wednesday and could end up playing in the SEC.
Virginia LB Curtis Grant has narrowed his choices to Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, and Ohio State. He’s visited all four schools in the past five weeks. The nation’s No. 2 recruit according to Rivals, he could provide a major boost for a Gators class that hasn’t been up to standards yet. A coaching change will tend to have that effect.
Stephone Anthony, the second-best player from North Carolina, also lists Florida among various ACC schools as a front-runner. He visited the Tar Heels this weekend, but has developed a strong relationship with Florida coaches.
Cyrus Kouandjio, a Maryland OT and the nation’s No. 4 player, lists Alabama and Auburn along with Iowa, USC, and New Mexico (?). He visited the Plains this weekend, but says he’ll wait until Tuesday night to decide.
Florida LB Tony Steward, the nation’s top outside linebacker, also had Bammers and Barners checking on his every move, but he’s narrowing his list to Clemson and FSU.
Georgia’s Isaiah Crowell is rated as the best running back in the country, and could become the second top-10 Peach Stater in a week to commit to Mark Richt’s “Dream Team” plan. The Dawgs have battled Alabama for several recruits this year, and this one will come down to a border war as well. He recently canceled an Auburn visit.
And Sunshine State DT Timmy Jernigan, considered the nation’s No. 2 at his position, has Bama, Florida, LSU, and Tennessee on his list, plus FSU. He’s only visited the latter three during recent months, most recently the Vols, but has spent plenty of time in Gainesville during the Gators’ long recruitment.
