The Georgia Bulldogs are still plenty pedigreed when it comes to college football recruiting: With the 2011 National Signing Day less than 48 hours away, Mark Richt and his assistants have hauled in a class that emphatically quiets (for now! haha!) any talk that next year might be the final season for this coaching staff. The top five commits you’ll see in Athens this fall, barring some unforseen disaster:
• Defensive end Ray Drew (Thomasville, Georgia): This here’s the big fish. A Rivals overall top ten recruit, Drew pledged his allegiance to the Bulldogs last week, and has been vocal in his efforts to get other prospects to join him.
• Quarterback Christian LeMay (Matthews, North Carolina): The Bulldogs may have already found the successor to young Aaron Murray under center, but the rangy LeMay comes with some discipline questions.
• Cornerback Malcolm Mitchell (Valdosta, Georgia): The nation’s top-ranked CB has yet to sign a letter of intent, but committed verbally to the Dawgs in late January.
• Tight end Jay Rome (Valdosta, Georgia): Mitchell’s high school teammate ranks fourth nationally at his position, and went fancy for his commitment, donning a UGA hat on ESPNU earlier this month.
• Wide receiver Justin Scott-Wesley (Camilla, Georgia): Rounding out an already-cozy stable of wideouts is this 4.4-running wunderkind.
Georgia Football Recruiting Nets Stellar 2011 Class; More To Come On National Signing Day?
Two wild cards the Dawgs are supposed to have good shots at landing remain unaccounted for as of Monday morning. Five-star running back Isaiah Crowell (Columbus, Georgia) will announce his college choice on Signing Day, while juco nose tackle John Jenkins is scheduled to make his commitment on Saturday, February 5.
