Auburn enjoyed its best season in many years in 2010, riding Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton to a BCS National Championship Game victory over Oregon. That’s the sort of thing that tends to pay dividends with high schoolers, and the strong state of Auburn football recruiting is testament to that.
Auburn Football Recruiting: Can Tigers Follow Up Cam Newton With Great National Signing Day?
The Tigers have pulled in 23 commitments so far, a haul that are has them ranked sixth by Rivals among 2011 classes. And if Auburn can win the commitment of Cyrus Kouandjio, this class could jump to fourth or third.
Auburn only has one five-star recruit — Kris Frost — but its class is solid and should give Gene Chizik a lot of depth to work with.
LB Kris Frost, Matthews, NC. After initially committing while Auburn could not accept him, Frost is the lone five-star recruit in this class and should star at linebacker for years.
LB Brent Calloway, Russelville, AL. Auburn swayed him from Alabama.
DB Marcus Roberson, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Chose Auburn for now over hard-closing Florida; could flip.
OL Christian Westerman, Chandler, AZ. Decommitted from Texas.
QB Kiehl Frazier, Springdale, AR. Won’t be the next Cam Newton — he’s not nearly Newton’s size — but hails from the same town as Mitch Mustain.
Again, Kouandjio is the big fish left for Auburn to reel in. If the Tigers can do that, this is easily a top-five class.
