2011 Orange Bowl: Jim Harbaugh Wants You To Respect The Process As Well As The Game

After Stanford’s 40-12 demolition job on Virginia Tech in the 2011 Orange Bowl, there’s no stopping the rumor mill in regard to the future of Cardinal coach Jim Harbaugh.

It’s no secret that Michigan and multiple NFL teams are interested in his services. Now, the speculation will officially kick into overdrive until Harbaugh puts the kibosh on it or decides to leave for greener pastures. Monday night, however, is not the time when Harbaugh will do any tipping.

Immediately following the game, it became clear that the memo had been handed down by the ESPN brass. Force Jim Harbaugh to announce his intentions for the future under pain of death. Michelle Tafoya, you’re up first:

Smooth, JH.

Not to be outdone, Rece Davis waited all of 8 seconds after Stanford’s coach took to the podium before grilling Harbaugh over his next career choice. Mid-victory speech, mind you.

Jimmy’s response? He told Rece to “please respect the game of football and our teams accomplishment tonight.” And then he was gone. Harbaugh’s avoidance capabilities were now bordering on Madden-level.

Finally, ESPN’s Joe Schad hit Harbaugh up with the same question. No dice, Joe.

ESPN...the process and/or the game. If you’ve learned nothing else about them tonight, it’s this...Respect either of them.

Also, that Jim Harbaugh will not be controlled. At least not by you.
