Texas State: Where Those Who Were Can Be Again

Michigan, Pitt and UConn are among the highest-profile college football head coaching vacancies in the nation. However none so far can match the star wattage of candidates that have lined up for the head gig at...Texas State?

The Bobcats, not to be confused with the Fightin’ Armadillos, who will be moving to the FBS next season and joining the WAC in 2012, are looking for a head coach. As folks like Randy Edsall, George O’Leary and Jim Leavitt can tell you, there’s something to be for starting from scratch and building a program in your image.

The opportunity to do so is attracting a vertiable who’s who of “hey, I remember that guy” coaching candidates. That list includes...

Former Texas A&M (and briefly Alabama) head man Denni Franchione.

Former Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster.

Former Boise State and Colorado coach Dan Hawkins, who was likely pleased to hear Texas State is not playing intramurals, brother.

There's a bunch of candidates that don't have a past of miserable coaching stints as well, but what fun would that be? Texas State hopes to name its coach by next week.
