Barrett Trotter To Remain Auburn Tigers Starting QB, For Now

Junior quarterback Barrett Trotter will remain the starting quarterback for the Auburn Tigers.

Junior quarterback Barrett Trotter will remain the starter for the Auburn Tigers, Charles Goldberg of Al.com reports.

“I expect him (Trotter) to play well. And I expect everybody else around him to play well with him,” Tigers head coach Gene Chizik said on Tuesday during his weekly press conference. “We looked hard at everything. It’s hard for any quarterback to be as productive as you want him to be if everybody else isn’t productive as well.”

Trotter is attempting to replace Cam Newton, the 2010 Heisman Trophy winner who led the Tigers to a national championship win before becoming the first overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. The Birmingham, Alabama native has started all six games for the 24th-ranked Tigers, completing 56 percent of his 141 pass attempts for 976 yards with nine touchdowns and six interceptions this season.

Trotter has struggled the last two weeks against SEC opponents, though, going 18-of-42 for 193 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.

The Tigers host the Florida Gators in a nationally-televised game on ESPN on Saturday night.
