We were past the midway point of the season and Georgia Tech was undefeated, joining Clemson as the only such team in the conference. This being the ACC, an upset was almost inevitable, and it had to be against the unlikeliest of foes.
Georgia Tech Vs. Virginia Final Score: Cavaliers Upend Division Leaders, 24-21
So Virginia, its 3-2 record coming into the game padded by a three-point win against Indiana and a one-point overtime squeaker over Idaho, ran all over the Jackets’ defense for Georgia Tech-esque numbers -- at 272, they matched Tech yard-for-yard on the game -- and upset the visitors, 24-21.
Looking for an oddly amusing aspect of the game? Virginia didn't score in the second half, after leading 24-14 at the half. Which might explain all the rushing attempts, Perry Jones lead the way for 149 yards on 18 carries, followed by Kevin Parks' 17 rushes for 86 yards. Tevin Washington had 115 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries for Georgia Tech, but the Jackets came up short anyway.
