There wasn’t really one of those hide-the-women-and-children moments that we’ve become used to seeing in LSU’s win Saturday against Auburn. There were really too many contenders to choose one. Auburn players daring enough to return kickoffs found their bodies contorted in new and unusual ways, the once-exiled Jordan Jefferson threw a 42-yard touchdown pass and the Bayou Bengals scored three times in one two-and-a-half minute stretch to turn a blowout into a 45-10 laugher.

Even LSU fans had a difficult time picking singling out any one player.
It's hard to pick out the stars. Jarvis Landry was an absolute beast on special teams, laying some serious wood. Especially for a freshman wideout. Ron Brooks stepped in for his suspended teammates and played great throughout, even scoring a touchdown. Reuben Randle turned in a great game. Barkevious Mingo was simply dominant on the defensive line. JC Copeland busted holes so big that I could have run through them. Everybody was great.
LSU’s 393 yards of total offense were the second-most the Tigers have put up against an FBS team all year. And Auburn’s 248 yards were the fewest any opponent has held them to all year; the average Auburn running play went for 2.6 yards, barely half of LSU’s 4.8 yard average. That’s generally the recipe for the kind of dismantling that we witnessed in the Bayou last night.
Now, the wait is officially over for LSU. They get a bye week to get ready for the season-defining showdown against Alabama on Nov. 5. (The Tide also has a bye.) Auburn gets to recover against Ole Miss next week and has crucial games at Georgia and against Alabama sandwiched around a sure win against Samford left. The defending national champions will make a bowl, but it’s not going to be quite as glamorous a landing place as last year’s.
