Florida Gators tight end Gerald Christian and wide receiver Robert Clark will transfer, the school announced Tuesday.
Gerald Christian, Robert Clark Transferring From Florida Football
Florida announced that tight end Gerald Christian and wide receiver Robert Clark plan to transfer from the school.
Based on the comments from everyone involved, it’s pretty clear the players weren’t happy with their playing time at Florida.
“Both of these players have expressed a desire for more playing time and felt that it would be in their best interests to transfer,” said Coach Muschamp. “We wish them both the best of luck and appreciate their contributions to the program.”
“I’m looking for an opportunity to play more,” said Christian. “I have no bad feelings about Florida or the coaching staff, I just want to get a fresh start and see the field more.”
“I’ve enjoyed being a part of the Gator program but at the same time I’m excited about future opportunities to play more,” said Clark. “I will have nothing but good memories from my time in Gainesville.”
The translation, here: Christian, a tight end, and Clark, a wide receiver, likely said something like “I want more playing time” to Muschamp, who said something like “Uh, that’s not happening.” And so Florida’s anemic passing game loses two more little-used options, Florida’s “You can play from Day One” pitch to recruits gets a little more potent, and the beat-up, depleted Gators lose more of the precious little depth they have.
Christian has four receptions for 72 yards and one touchdown and started in three games this year. Clark had no catches on the year and played mostly on special teams.
Clark and Christian are the eighth and ninth players to leave the program since Will Muschamp was hired. It also means that, when you take the top two classes from 2010 (Florida/USC), one-fifth of those players are no longer at their schools.
