Houston quarterback Case Keenum continues to rewrite the record book, this time setting the NCAA mark for career touchdown passes. Coming into the Cougars' Thursday night matchup with the Rice Owls, Keenum needed five touchdown passes to break Graham Harrell's career mark. After a shaky start in which he threw an interception and gave away a fumble early, Keenum rebounded, tying the career mark with four touchdown passes in the first half.
Case Keenum Sets NCAA Record For Career Touchdown Passes
Keenum finally got on the board as time expired in the first quarter with a 57-yard strike to Patrick Edwards. The lengthy connection was a theme, with Keenum and Edwards hooking up again in the second quarter for a 68-yard score. Keenum also completed a 21-yard touchdown pass to Tyron Carrier and an 18-yarder to Justin Johnson to tie the record.
And 25 seconds into the third quarter, Keenum broke the record with a 41-yard touchdown pass to Charles Sims. For the night, he's thrown for 321 yards, five touchdowns and one interception, and we're under a minute into the third quarter.
For his career, Keenum has thrown 135 touchdown passes, one better than Harrell’s previous mark of 134.
