Case Keenum, Patrick Edwards Putting On A Show For Houston Cougars

It seemed like the Houston Cougars were destined for a dogfight on Thursday after the Rice Owls came out swinging haymakers. In reality, that couldn't be farther from the truth. After a rough first quarter, Houston has sprung to life to effectively put away the Owls with a quick burst in the second and third quarters. The Cougars currently lead the Owls, 59-34.

Because just describing what Houston is doing doesn’t quite do it justice, here’s some stats that seem relevant.

Case Keenum tossed an interception and fumbled in the first quarter, but recovered to throw seven touchdown passes. The fifth touchdown pass broke Graham Harrell's NCAA career mark.

It gets better for Keenum. Through just about three quarters, he’s completed 18 passes. Seven were touchdowns.

Patrick Edwards has five catches for 249 yards and three touchdowns. He's averaging almost 50 yards per catch.

Charles Sims has three catches for 69 yards and two of them are touchdowns.

Keenum has completed passes to just five receivers. Four of them have touchdown catches. The fifth? Michael Hayes had one catch for zero yards and probably feels left out.

Houston’s longest scoring drive of the game was 2:05. The rest are hovering around the one-minute mark. Don’t blink.

This game is insane. I suggest you tune in to Fox Sports and give it a shot. After Keenum’s last touchdown pass, Rice rushed for a 97-yard touchdown. If nothing else, this is entertaining.
