Marquel Wade Hit: Arkansas Player Apologizes For Play That Earned Ejection

Arkansas Razorbacks wide receiver Marquel Wade was sent packing from his team's game against the Vanderbilt Commodores after unloading a vicious shot on punt returner Jonathan Krause. You can see video of the hit here, but you can't see what happened afterward, when Wade gestured at Vandy fans on his way to the locker room.

His explanation? He thought Krause had the ball:

Robbie NeiswangerNWARobbie WR Marquel Wade behind microphone now. He's apologizing for Vandy ejection: "I was wrong. I thought he had the ball."

Plausible, actually, but what made the hit so much worse was the gloating in celebration, both instantly and on the sidelines. Shouldn’t somebody have, like, mentioned to him why he’d been flagged, if he didn’t know?

Don’t be surprised to see either Arkansas or the SEC to levy some sort of punishment on Wade. Lots and lots of people saw it, and there wasn’t much of any positive reaction to the play.
