For years, the college choice of many elite athletes in the state of Florida came down to two games: Miami vs. Florida State, and Florida State vs. Florida (Miami and Florida don’t typically play each other). This year is not much different, though the Seminoles and Canes are battling more over recruits for the next cycle than the current year.
Florida State Vs. Miami: Recruiting Visits Include Elite Corner Tracy Howard
An annual rite of passage, many elite prospects will again make their way to Tallahassee to take in Miami at Florida State. Here are just a few.

And there will again be a lot of elite talent visiting on the sidelines in Tallahassee when these two storied rivals square off at 3:30 on ABC. Here are just a few:
Cornerback Tracy Howard from Miramar, FL is rated as one of the top cornerbacks in the country by all four major services (ESPN, 247, Rivals and Scout). Howard is extremely quick with great length and instincts. This will be Howard’s official visit to Tallahassee. He’s thought to be leaning to Florida or Florida State, but an upset by the hometown Hurricanes could put them right back in the race. Howard is a mature student who had handled his recruitment quite well. Here are some highlights from his sophomore year:
2013 linebacker Daniel McMillian out of First Coast HS in Jacksonville is also expected to be in attendance. As you can see, he is an explosive edge rusher and a physical specimen. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound junior holds offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida and Florida State, among others. First Coast HS has typically been kind to Florida State, sending five players to Tallahassee in the last four years, but Miami did beat the ‘Noles for McMillian’s teammate and fellow linebacker Reggie Northrup.
Every Hurricane coach talks about the need to lock down Miami’s backyard, and Al Golden is no different. One important school for the ‘Canes to lock down is University School in Ft. Lauderdale. University has at least three FBS prospects on its roster, including two top prospects in 2013 receiver Jordan Cunningham and defensive tackle Maquedius Bain. Bain committed to the Seminoles yesterday, and Miami can’t afford to lose both of these top prospects. Cunningham is ultra smooth and keeps getting better as a player. Holding offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Stanford, Cunningham is already considered an elite prospect.
