Andre Simmons, Vanderbilt Safety, Arrested In Robbery, According To Report

Vanderbilt safety Andre Simmons reportedly arrested for allegedly taking part in an on-campus robbery.

Andre Simmons, a Vanderbilt safety, was arrested on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in an on-campus robbery, according to a report by WZTV in Nashville. While the school has not officially confirmed that Simmons was arrested, they did announce that he has been suspended from the football team, pending the investigation.

“We were informed that an incident had occurred on campus involving a number of people, including a member of the football team. While this is an on-going investigation, it is our understanding that a member of our football team may have been involved in behavior that is unacceptable. Therefore, we have suspended Andre Simmons until the completion and determination of the investigation,” Vanderbilt University Vice Chancellor of Student Athletics David Williams II said in the statement.

Simmons was allegedly one of two people who held up another student in his dorm room and robbed him of about $5,000. While one of the assailants immediately fled, Simmons allegedly stayed behind to keep the student in his room. He was later arrested during a chase. The report says Simmons was being held on a $100,000 bond in Davidson County Jail.

Simmons, a sophomore, has not played this season after appearing in nine games as a freshman.
