The 6-4 Iowa Hawkeyes and the 5-5 Purdue Boilermakers will face off Saturday afternoon in a matchup of middle-dwelling Big 10 teams, but both teams are coming off opposite performances.

Iowa was just throttled by Michigan State, the Hawkeyes first loss at home, after upsetting Michigan just a week earlier. That’s kind of how the season has gone for Iowa. The Hawkeyes lost to Iowa State and Minnesota, puzzling considering they’ve beaten Michigan, Pittsburgh and Northwestern. Iowa remains winless on the road heading into this weekend’s matchup, as well.

The Boilermakers have been a disappointing team, but last week, everything came together in an overtime victory against Ohio State. Purdue has played a grueling schedule this year — four of their five losses came against Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin and Notre Dame — but the Boilermakers have been prone to slip-ups: their first loss was against Rice.

Regardless, Purdue has the momentum and the home field advantage against a team that has yet to win a road game. A win for the Boilermakers means bowl-eligibility, as well, adding extra motivation for Saturday’s matchup. For Iowa, a win means better positioning and bragging rights over their biggest Big 10 rival.
