There might be a couple of weeks left to go in the college football season, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early for teams to start making their postseason reservations. In the case of BYU, the Cougars are headed to the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl in Dallas.
BYU Accepts 2011 Armed Forces Bowl Invitation
BYU has already found a bowl home, awaiting its Conference USA foe in the Armed Forces.
“We are pleased to officially extend this invitation to BYU,” said Brant B. Ringler, executive director of the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl. “Our goal is always to attract schools with a national presence to help us honor the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, and BYU is a great fit as it is a nationally-recognized institution with an outstanding fan base.”
There is, of course, the minor matter of the Conference USA team that BYU will face in the bowl. Part of that depends on whether the Houston Cougars manage to stay undefeated and clinch a spot in the BCS. That would make SMU or perhaps Marshall (if the Herd are eligible) as the likeliest opponents. If Houston loses, things get far murkier; anyone from Houston to Tulsa to Southern Miss could be in line for the CUSA berth.
