College Football Rankings Preview: LSU Stands Alone, Everything Else Is On Fire

LSU continued its dominance and the rest of the college football rankings are on fire. Lots and lots of fire.

This week brought flamethrowers and f-bombs in the college football world as LSU handled its business and everyone else exploded into flames. The SEC came out of the weekend looking like roses, while everything else is a smoldering pile of wreckage. Not bad for a schedule that looked only so-so on the surface.

It wasn’t until the evening that things got good and completely out-of-hand on Saturday. Sure, Oklahoma State fell on Friday night, but looking back, it seems the Cowboys were only the appetizer. Of the top-seven, only three -- LSU, Alabama and Arkansas -- survived the weekend, with Oregon and Oklahoma losing close ones within minutes of each other.

The end result is rankings that should be a jumbled mess, and even more SEC dominance atop the polls. Here’s a look at F--- It Weekend.

No. 1 LSU 52, Ole Miss 3. Les Miles took a knee with five minutes to go. That tells you everything you need to know about this.

Iowa State 37, No. 2 Oklahoma State 31. Look, just never doubt the Law of Tessitore. Ever. This is what happens when he’s calling a Friday night game.

No. 3 Alabama 42, Georgia Southern 21. How in the world did Georgia Southern score 21? Remember when everyone was talking about style points and Alabama, perhaps, slipping a notch this week? Haha, good joke!

USC 38, No. 4 Oregon 35. Something about kickers in high-pressure situations with BCS implications. This week, it was Oregon’s turn. With a chance to cap a huge comeback and at least force overtime, Oregon stalled and missed the field goal.

No. 22 Baylor 45, No. 5 Oklahoma 38. Tessitore. Law of. Yeah, again. Also, calling a timeout when your opponent is trying to sit on the ball and play for overtime -- and when your opponent possesses one Robert Griffin III -- is a horrible idea.

No. 6 Arkansas 44, Mississippi State 17. And here we have your No. 3 team. Whatever, just chant S-E-C and it’ll all be all right.

North Carolina State 37, No. 7 Clemson 13. The Notorious T.O.B strikes again and down goes Clemson.

No. 8 Virginia Tech 24, North Carolina 21. Hey, this game happened Thursday night! Remember then, when everything was calm and collected?

No. 9 Stanford 31, Cal 28. With the way the night was going, who didn’t think Stanford was going to go down to make it a clean sweep? The Cardinal escaped, though, stopping the skid of ranked teams.

No. 10 Boise State 52, San Diego State 35. Boise State is probably kicking itself real hard right now. Get it? Kicking!

No. 11 Houston 37, SMU 7. Still wish Houston could somehow find a way into the BCS Championship. It won’t happen, but it just needs to.

No. 12 South Carolina 41, Citadel 20. Another SEC top-10 team?

No. 13 Kansas State 17, No. 23 Texas 13. The Wildcats were significantly out-gained, yet still pulled out a four-point win. Football works in mysterious ways.

No. 14 Georgia 19, Kentucky 10. It was a good try, Kentucky.

No. 15 Michigan State 55, Indiana 3. It wasn’t a good try, Indiana.

No, 18 Michigan 45, No. 16 Nebraska 17. This seemed like it had close game written all over it. As Lee Corso would say: F--- it.

No. 17 Wisconsin 28, Illinois 17. Those Hail Mary losses kind of suck right now. Like more than at the time, thanks to what might have been.

No. 19 TCU 34, Colorado State 10. I’ve got nothing here. An easy win on a day when wins weren’t easy to come by.

UAB 34, No. 20 Southern Miss 31. First upset of the week! Compared to the rest of the carnage, this is a papercut.

No. 21 Penn State 20, Ohio State 14. First half: Fun. Second half: What in the world are you doing?

No. 24 Auburn 35, Samford 16. No, that’s Samford. Not Stanford.

Virginia 14, No. 25 Florida State 13. Florida State was handed this game, and still gave it right back thanks to ... you guessed it: field goal kicking.

Here’s a look at last week’s BCS standings. Suffice to say they’ll take on a bit of a different look this week.
