Oregon Vs. Washington 2011: Series History And Rivalry Notes

Although the schools began playing each other in 1900, the Washington Huskies - Oregon Ducks rivalry didn’t became heated until 1948.

Although the schools began playing each other in 1900, the Washington Huskies - Oregon Ducks rivalry didn't became heated until 1948, when the Huskies told a conference member to vote against the Ducks in order to send a team to the Rose Bowl.

Over the years, there have been plenty of events to stoke the fire between the two fanbases. In 1962, Larry Hill, of Oregon, was tackled by Washington fans who had rushed onto the field while he was trying to catch the game winning touchdown. In 1995, Washington head coach, Jim Lambright, lobbied for the Huskies to be selected to play in the Cotton Bowl instead of the Ducks. Rick Neuheisel was already hated by Oregon before Washington hired him in 1999. That Neuheisel celebrated a Husky win by taking photos and jumping up and down on the “O” in the middle of the field after a win against Oregon at Autzen Stadiu only inflamed matters more.

Washington has led the head-to-head for most of the rivalry, though Oregon has dominated the series in recent years. They expect to continue doing so this year, though the Huskies are a much-improved program from where they were a few years back.

Series record: Washington leads, 57-40-5.

Last year’s result: Oregon won, 53-16.

Current streak: Oregon has won seven consecutive games.

Longest-ever streak: Oregon’s current seven-game winning streak.

First meeting: December 1, 1900 (Oregon, 43-0).
