PHOTO: Iowa Honors Military With Stars And Stripes Tigerhawk Logo

The Iowa Hawkeyes host the Michigan Wolverines today at noon in Iowa City and they'll also be honoring the military for the Veteran's Day celebration at Kinnick Stadium. There were talks that it was possible the Hawkeyes would use an American inspired tigerhawk on their helmet at some point this year, but those were just rumors. Apparently, Ricky Stanzi got on the case and made sure this would be come a reality. The Hawkeyes will wear a stars and stripes themed tigerhawk on the side of their helmet today with the opposite side of the helmet blank.

The helmet idea was reportedly that of Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz. The right side of the helmet will sport the tigerhawk and the left side of the helmet will be left black, in honor of all men and women of all branches of the military who gave their lives in the line of duty.
