The Minnesota Golden Gophers have now put together five straight quarters of something actually resembling football, giving the team some hope for the back end of the season. Nearing the end of the first quarter, the Gophers are winning 14-7 over the Michigan State Spartans.
Minnesota Vs. Michigan State: Gophers Making Early Upset Bid, Up 14-7
After holding the Spartans to a three-and-out on their opening possession, the Gophers marched down the field in four plays, the biggest being a 64-yard touchdown pass to Da'Jon McKnight from junior quarterback Marqueis Gray. The Spartans responded with a big play of their own, a 69-yard pass from Kirk Cousins to B.J. Cunningham, setting up a four-yard touchdown pass to Keith Nichol.
The Gophers took back the lead after capitalizing on an Edwin Baker fumble on his own 26 yard line. Two plays later, Gray found McKnight once again, this time from 13 yards out.
