Michigan had steamed through the early portion of its schedule and looked like a Big Ten championship contender. Then the Wolverines went to Iowa City, and they ran into a road bump; a lackluster day from Denard Robinson and a controversial call late combined to help Iowa upset Michigan, 24-16.

Robinson led the Wolverines with 194 passing yards and two touchdowns, and had another 55 yards on the ground, but he looked like he had a third touchdown pass late. Robinson connected with Junior Hemingway with seconds remaining on what could have been a game-tying touchdown, but officials ruled it an incomplete pass on the field and then upheld that ruling on review.
Michigan couldn’t score after that play, either, leaving Iowa with a controversial victory.
The Hawkeyes got 132 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Marcus Coker in the win. And James Vandenberg threw for 171 yards and another touchdown.
