Alabama Vs. LSU Game 2011: Tide Score First, After Much Travail

The LSU Tigers got a pretty piece of field position after blocking an Alabama Crimson Tide field goal, getting the ball at the Bama 48 with Jordan Jefferson in for Jarrett Lee. A Michael Ford run and some Lee-Spencer Ware option made for a LSU first down, but there it ended. So LSU brought out its ultimate weapon.

Punter Brad Wing, who might be the best athlete ever, again pinned Alabama inside its own five. Not only were you not surprised, you expected it to happen. He's good at punts.

Just as before, Alabama clawed its way out of trouble. After nearing midfield, A.J. McCarron hit Trent Richardson on a wide-open wheel route for a 39-yard gain, making for the night's first legit touchdown threat. Jokes about missed field goals: there were many of them at this point.

Jeremy Shelley took over for Cade Foster as Alabama's field goal kicker, punching it through the uprights. 3-0 with four minutes to go in the second, Tide.
