Mississippi Rebels head football coach Houston Nutt has said he hasn't been told by administrators that his job is on the line, Hugh Kellenberger of the Clarion-Ledger posts. Nutt is also quoted as saying no such meeting has been scheduled.
Houston Nutt Denies Reports Of Imminent Firing As Ole Miss Coach
"I guess they’re hearing what you’re hearing," Nutt said. "Nobody has met, nobody has called."
Nutt has been found his seat uncomfortable for most of the season, with criticism approaching a frenzy after Ole Miss lost to the Kentucky Wildcats, all but ensuring the Egg Bowl against the Mississippi St. Bulldogs will be the Rebels' only chance to score a SEC win all season. Unless you think they have a chance against the No. 1 LSU Tigers next week, of course.
The height of madness occurred late Saturday night, when rumors broke of Nutt being fired right after the Ole Miss-Kentucky game. Like, as he walked off the field, apparently. Somewhat more sober Sunday morning reports had Nutt being informed he wouldn’t remain as coach for next season.
