Georgia Recruiting Insiders Confident After Big Visits Weekend

Georgia hosted one of its biggest recruiting weekends of the season. Who came to Athens and what are UGA insiders saying?

The Dawgs hosted four-star offensive tackle Avery Young of Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) High over the weekend. Young had already visited Florida, Alabama and Auburn. He told 247 Sports that two schools stand out:

“Georgia and Auburn are my top two right now,” Young told 247Sports, “but I don’t have a favorite at this point. I am going to wait until Signing Day to make my final decision.”

Young will take his final visit to either Ohio State (see: Urban Meyer effect) or Clemson.

Defensive back Chaz Elder visited UGA, but Georgia folks still see him signing with South Carolina. The Cocks have long been the favorites here.

Meanwhile, the Atlanta Journal Constitution has a report on linebacker Markuss Eligwe:

UGA had its biggest recruiting weekend of the year but didn’t have any reported commitments by late Sunday night. However, there are rumors that AJC Super 11 LB Markuss Eligwe of Stone Mountain High School may flip his longtime FSU commitment to UGA. Eligwe made an official visit with the Bulldogs over the weekend. On Sunday night, as rumors circulated, Eligwe said on Twitter, “I’m holding off on [media] interviews now.” On Friday, Eligwe tweeted that he was about to beat Mark Richt and UGA recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner in cards.FSU insiders do not expect Eligwe to flip to the Dawgs, but it’s tough to ignore the draw of the in-state school.

After his visit to Athens, JUCO offensive lineman Mark Beard of Coffeeville, Kansas is maintaining his top three of Georgia, Arkansas and Mississippi State. Look for a decision from Beard this week.

Per ESPN, JUCO wide receiver Corradelle Patterson enjoyed his visit to the University of Georgia

“That was my second visit to Georgia,” Patterson said. “I went there over the summer. It was a good trip. I can’t say much other than I really like all the coaches and players. To me, that’s what stands out with the Dawgs.“Patterson is one of the top JUCO receivers in the country and is very likely to be playing in the SEC, as his other two visits have been to Tennessee and Auburn.
