Add a few bullets to an already extensive list of candidates, which has reportedly grown from 30 to 42 applicants. As far as specifics go, Texas Longhorns associate head coach Duane Akina (via) and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets wide receivers coach Buzz Preston (via) have made themselves known.
Akina might be the closest to getting the job so far, as Mack Brown says he’s landed an interview. Born in Hawaii and a candidate to replace June Jones before Greg McMackin took over, Akina coached throughout the then-Rainbow Warriors’ defense from 1981 to 1985.
