Bill Byrne Could Be Next Out At Texas A&M, According To Report

Texas A&M fired football coach Mike Sherman Thursday night, but did so in disorderly fashion. Sherman was reportedly notified over the phone while on a recruiting trip -- just hours after he’d already met with College Station brass. That doesn’t reflect well on athletic director Bill Byrne (this doesn’t either, nor does this), and Aggies beat writer Brent Zwerneman reports Byrne’s job could be on the line as well.

Brent Zwerneman@BrentZwerneman With events of past week being last straws (Toole as part of that), an A&M insider told me to expect dismissal of AD Bill Byrne soon. #mysa

Byrne has been the A&M AD since 2003. He helped guide the department from the Big 12 and into the SEC, but the record shows he’s also used “tu” in reference to the University of Texas.
