The 2012 bowl game in Mobile will see the MAC-champion Northern Illinois Huskies take the field minus one of its best players. Defensive end Sean Progar, along with wide receiver Anthony Johnson, will miss the team's bowl game against the Arkansas St. Red Wolves, coach Dave Doeren announced in a statement. The pair was involved in a drunk driving incident on Dec. 4, with Progar picking up DUI charges.
2012 GoDaddy Bowl: Sean Progar, Anthony Johnson Out For Northern Illinois
Doeren:
After gathering information, reviewing the details of both situations and talking to many individuals, including Anthony and Sean, regarding the events that occurred the night after the MAC championship game, we have determined that they will not play in the bowl game. A lot of variables went into these decisions, and each situation was reviewed separately, as they occurred independently of each other. Both players have expressed regret over the decisions they made that night and are truly remorseful.
Progar led the team in sacks with 5.5, finishing second in tackles for loss. NIU fans think the line will hold without him, but lament the distraction. Johnson caught about a pass per game, tallying 174 yards on the year.
