Purdue Coach Danny Hope Gets Two-Year Extension

Purdue coach Danny Hope has been granted a two-year contract extension.

Despite a 15-21 overall record, the Purdue Boilermakers have given head football coach Danny Hope a two-year extension that keeps him on board through 2016.

Purdue is currently preparing for the 2011 Little Caesars Bowl against the Western Michigan Broncos.

The Makers rebounded to a 6-6 finish in 2011 after seasons that ended 5-7 and 4-8 in Hope’s first two years.

Hope was hired by Purdue in January 2008 as the associate head coach under Joe Tiller, who retired after the 2008 season. Hope was previously the head football coach at Eastern Kentucky University from 2003 to 2007.

As SB Nation’s Hammer & rails explains, there have been some positive moments under Hope, but he has hardly inspired blind faith:

Hope needs to produce results, however. Next year has to be better than 6-6 or the cries for his job will get much louder. I trust the talent on the field, but I think that Hope’s biggest problem is his coordinators. J.B. Gibboney is completely useless when it comes to special teams coverage. Gary Nord’s offense has been as vanilla as possible for the last two years even when we have had healthy players. The defense seems to fluctuate from game to game whether it is going to look good (as it did for three quarters against Illinois and against Ohio State) and awful (the Wisconsin game).
