Daniel Rodriguez, a 23-year-old decorated U.S. Army combat veteran and high school football standout, was the subject of a recent profile in the Washingtonian. Thanks to that profile, Rodriguez may finally get the chance to live out his dream of playing college football at Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech’s Frank Beamer Reaches Out To U.S. Army Vet, A Potential Hokies Recruit
Brett Haber, the author of the piece for the Washingtonian, reported earlier this week that he was contacted by Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer who read the piece and saw the attached YouTube video featuring highlights of Rodriguez from his high school playing days. Beamer said that he plans to contact Rodriguez as soon as his team wraps up their season following the Sugar Bowl.
Rodriguez served two combat tours, one in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. He was wounded in a bloody fire fight in Afghanistan, where he helped wounded comrades while fending off an ambush of some 300 Taliban fighters. He was also wounded during that battle, continuing to fight and help his fellow soldiers despite his own injury.
Check out the video of Rodriguez, and be sure to read the piece at the Washingtonian.
