News

Penn State is now the only FBS program without a head coach. Boise State’s Chris Petersen is the latest supposed candidate, but we pretty much already know how that goes. Right, UCLA?

Might Oklahoma’s Landry Jones make the No. 1 NFL Draft pick even more valuable? Bob Stoops seems to think so.

Danny Hope signed a Purdue contract extension, but Boilermakers fans would prefer to leave Hope solo.

Quarterback Daxx Garman, Arizona transfer and possible Devestatin' Dave lyric, will head for Stillwater.

Randy Edsall's now set to switch out both coordinators. Will Rod Vanderlinden replace defensive coordinator Todd Bradford, or will all those syllables have to go somewhere they'd truly be appreciated? Always felt like the Troy Trojans need some more syllables.

Regarding the death of Pace University football player Danroy Henry Jr., who was shot by police, a federal judge has banned the release of documents or video.

The Orange Bowl: no longer sponsored by Camacho Cigars, distressingly.

For Arkansas' Greg Childs, who's still battling back from injury, being a teammate has meant more than stats.

Games

The Hawai'i Bowl happened (Southern Miss beat Nevada, 24-17; box score and more at SI.com), and was a Christmas Eve letdown akin to finding out A Christmas Story is on loop instead of Christmas Vacation. Even the brawl wasn't all that miraculous.

Monday’s action: blessed Shreveport’s Independence Bowl, where UNC gets Missouri. Dwight Jones (WHO? DWIGHT JONES) will be in the house.

Recruiting

Zach Banner may have a top three or top five, but USC seems to be somewhere in there either way. More on USC recruiting.

The Tide picked up (they probably didn’t pick him up) enormous tackle Alphonse Taylor, strengthening Bama’s status as the new No. 1 class.

Running back KeiVarae Russell has settled on gold, but will he pair with it purple? Or green and/or blue depending on occasion?

Mizzou lands half of its dream recruiting class: guard Evan Boehm.

New Pitt coach Paul Chryst plans on honoring all 19 current commitments, and at this point could probably inspire a Good Guy Paul meme.

Etc.

Of course the NBA markets better than the Big Ten does, but did you realize they even do “BIG” better than the B1G does?

LSU fans celebrate Christmas by pointing out Jesus was actually born nearer to Sept. 6 than to Dec. 25. Probably what’s going on here.
