Let us never doubt the Little Caesar Bowl ever again (Little Caesars Pizza, however, remains suspect).
2011 Little Caesars Bowl: Purdue, WMU Both In Full-Blown MACtion Mode
The first quarter of the 2011 Little Caesars Bowl between the Western Michigan Broncos and Purdue Boilermakers saw both teams pulling out trick plays and big scores. Apparently that was simple the appetizer for the second quarter.
Down 8-7 heading into the 2nd, Purdue immediately fumbled away the ball. Western Michigan was also in the giving mood, giving the ball right back with an interception. That led to a Purdue field goal, giving them a 10-8 lead at the 12:49 mark.
The Broncos then put together a solid 12-play, 74 yard drive helped along by a critical Purde penalty, finishing with a one-yard touchdown pass from Alex Carder to Josh Schaffer. WMU was back in the driver's seat with a 15-10 lead.
Then the kicked off...and Purdue’s Raheem Mostert promptly returned the ball 99 yards for a touchdown, making it 17-15 Boilermakers. Adding insult to injury, the Makers then kicked their second onside kick of the day and recovering it to boot.
Purdue didn't waste the opportunity, driving 61 yards and scoring a touchdown on a one-yard run by Reggie Pegram to make it 24-15 Purdue with 5:00 to go in the half.
So if you’re keeping track at home, we’ve got five touchdowns, one on a 99-yard kickoff return, two recovered onside kicks, a flea-flicker touchdown and a two-point conversion on an extra-point fake. The second half might melt your television.
