Washington Drops Nick Holt, Defensive Coaching Staff Members After Alamo Bowl

Nick Holt won’t be back in 2012 as Washington’s defensive coordinator.

Two days after a record-smashing Alamo Bowl that saw the Washington Huskies give up 67 points to the Baylor Bears, UW has announced defensive coordinator Nick Holt, linebackers coach Mike Cox, and secondary/safeties coach Jeff Mills won't be coming back for another year.

It takes more than one bad performance to lose a gig, of course, and Washington’s offense moved in quite a hurry of its own, increased pressure on UW’s D. The Huskies ranked 107th in defense this year, but of course that’s counting the Alamo. Even without that, they didn’t fare all that well.

Holt coached in Seattle since 2009, previously working with the USC Trojans, Louisville Cardinals and Idaho Vandals. The Huskies defense never ranked better than No. 70 in the country during his time on campus.
