The Bearcats lead Vanderbilt 24-21 after a combo of scoring plays (158 yards) accounted for almost a third of the game's total yardage in a matter of seconds. The Commodores and Cincinnati traded huge scoring plays when Ralph David Abernathy IV ran a Vanderbilt kickoff back 90 yards for a touchdown after Commodore backup quarterback Larry Smith hit receiver Chris Boyd for a 68-yard touchdown.

Cincinnati started the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 44-yard Tony Millano field goal. Since replacing starting quarterback Jordan Rodgers with Smith, Vanderbilt's passing has jumped from 26 yards through three quarters to 128 after two Smith-led scoring drives. Zach Callaros is still under 100 yards passing (76), but hasn't been sacked this half after taking three in the first two quarters.
One victory for the Commodores regardless of the outcome - Officials have announced an estimated attendance of over 57,000, with the crowd a considerably stronger shade of gold than Bearcat red.
