LSU landed the SEC's fourth-ranked class on 2011 National Signing Day, per Rivals, including five-star high school players La'El Collins, Anthony Johnson, and Jarvis Landry. More interesting to us are two of their lesser-ranked players: One who may be seriously underrated, and one who we cannot wait to see on the loose in Baton Rouge nightlife settings.
The latter first: Former Georgia quarterback Zach Mettenberger, last seen neck-and-neck with Aaron Murray for the starting position as a true freshman before being arrested and subsequently banned from the city of Valdosta (lordy, but we do love this kid), committed to the Tigers back in December, and will provide a counterpoint to the skillset of Jordan Jefferson as a redshirt sophomore:
LSU Football Recruiting: Jermauria Rasco, Zach Mettenberger Fly Under The Five-Star Radar
Mettenberger is a big, strong pocket passer with underrated mobility. From watching his spring game tape, I come away most impressed with his ball fakes and ability to put touch on the football (something neither QB we currently have has mastered yet). He appears to work through his progression nicely and delivers a very catchable ball. Mett also has a big arm and should really rejuvenate the vertical passing attack LSU has lacked for the past three years.
One of the biggest coups yesterday for the Miles camp came in the landing of four-star DE Jermauria Rasco, who withstood the sultry charms of Mack Brown to don the purple:
Rasco is a studly Evangel DE who seems to have gotten an unfair shake by recruiting services. His 4-star rating is respectable, but after a week of dominant practices at the A.A. Bowl, ranking him outside of the top 150 seems a bit absurd. Rasco brings a lot to the table, including a well-rounded skill set as both a pass rusher and run defender. At 6’3, 250 pounds, he has the size to step onto the field immediately.
