Unlike a vast swath of my sports-blogging colleagues, I am not a lawyer, a former lawyer, a law student, or currently studying for the bar exam, so I don't know: Maybe having Harvey "Grim Treeper" Updyke, the Alabama fan accused of poisoning Auburn's historic Toomer's Corner oak trees, join Twitter and allowing him to discuss aspects of his upcoming court case is some brilliant strategic counterstroke on the part of his crackerjack legal team.
Then again: Remember who Updyke's lawyer is.

That would be one Glennon Threatt, the gentleman who, after appearing himself on Paul Finebaum’s nationally syndicated radio hayride to hell, permitted Updyke to take the mic and for all intents and purposes confess his crimes on live air, after which Updyke (of course!) entered a “not guilty” plea in Lee County Court. There is clearly some purpose at work here we are not meant to understand.
There also remains the question of the true owner of the Twitter account. I found four Updyke-ish feeds without even looking that hard (the most creatively-named being @Spike80DF), but popular consensus has @HAUpdykeJR pegged as the real deal. And if it’s not him, I must sincerely congratulate the writer for so succinctly capturing the steadfastly martyred spirit of a man who has poisoned hundred-year-old trees over a perceived insult following a football game, confessed to the deed twice on national radio, and continued to feel sorry for himself without another apparent care in the world.
