Stadium Beer Sales Approved At West Virginia

Teetotalers be damned and Oliver Luck be praised: West Virginia University’s Board of Governors has, as predicted by our Mountaineers blog, approved the implementation of beer sales at WVU athletic events by an 8-5 margin. The Daily Mail ran an entertaining liveblog of the BoG meeting, where Luck laid down the regulations that could -- believe it or not -- plausibly curb the overconsumption that so thoroughly characterizes football Saturdays in Morgantown:

Sales will be cut off in the middle of the third quarter. Two beer max per purchase. Mandatory ID checks. Plastic bottles — and Luck specifically said this was to prevent spills because people who wrote in during the comment period expressed concern about people spilling if beer were poured into cups. Also, no beer sales in the student section and no one moving through the stands selling beer.

School officials estimate the move could rake in as much as $500,000 for facilities upgrades (and unrelatedly, are looking to upgrade the cell phone signal capacity at Mountaineer Field, so look for a rise in hilarious drunk texting!). Our friends at The Smoking Musket, who’ve been on top of this since the plan’s inception, have more.
