The Missouri Tigers will be without their captain during the '11-'12 campaign. Senior left tackle Elvis Fisher suffered a ruptured patellar tendon in his left knee during team practice early Monday morning, according to reports. He is scheduled to undergo surgery Tuesday to repair the damage.

Missouri Tigers senior left tackle Elvis Fisher suffered a ruptured patellar tendon in his left knee during team practice and will miss the upcoming season.

Fisher went to the ground during a one-on-one blocking drill against defensive end Michael Sam, grabbed his knee and had to be helped off the field. Head coach Gary Pinkel said at the time he believed the injury to be significant and serious.
Fisher’s injury is a jarring blow for the Tigers, who expected to bring back most of their offensive line intact from last season. The 23-year-old is a three-year starter at left tackle, and one of the teams biggest locker room leaders. He was named to ESPN’s Pre-Season 1st-Team All-Big 12 and is considered one of the top linemen in the conference.
Unfortunately, Fisher is a senior and already redshirted in his freshman season, so a return by that method is unlikely. However, per NCAA rules, he will be allowed to apply for a medical redshirt, thus awarding him one more season. With his injury coming before the Tigers’ season opener, it’s quite likely the NCAA would grant Fisher the request.
In the meantime, second-string left guard Justin Britt has been tabbed to fill Fisher’s starting spot at left tackle. Said Britt, “The team needs me and I feel like I should do this for Elvis because he’s worked so hard coming back from surgeries and stuff.”
