Notre Dame Football Lands Jarron Jones, Five-star Defensive Line Commit
Five-star recruit Jarron Jones has committed to Notre Dame.
“Just the relation to Aquinas, the religious atmosphere, and the smaller class size,” Jones said on Monday night.
The 6-foot-6, 300-pound Jones attends Aquinas Institute-Rochester in Rochester, New York, where he ‘s regarded by Scout.com as the top recruit in the Empire State. Jones had previously committed to Penn State University, but changed his mind after taking an unofficial visit to South Bend.
Jones’ high school coach Chris Battaglia tells the South Bend Tribune that Jones projects to defensive end in Brian Kelly’s 3-4 defense, but has the versatility to play defensive tackle in a 4-3 system. Kelly cannot comment on the commitment until February 1, but Jones is the third five-star recruit to commit to the Irish, joining defensive backs Ronald Darby and Tee Shepard.
North Carolina and Virginia Tech were also under consideration.
