UCLA will not decide its quarterback competition, instead essentially calling it a tie. Kevin Prince and Richard Brehaut will share the Bruins' starting quarterback position Saturday night in UCLA's season opener against Houston.
Kevin Prince, Richard Brehaut To Split UCLA Starting Job
UCLA will use both Kevin Prince and Richard Brehaut at quarterback in its season opener.
Rick Neuheisel explained the decision by saying that both quarterbacks deserve to play:
“After analyzing and looking at all the different strengths and weaknesses of the two youngsters, I just believe both deserve to play,” Neuheisel said.Neuheisel’s Bruins have struggled to find consistent quarterback play during his tenure. Injury woes have plagued Prince in particular and UCLA in general. But the subtext of Neuheisel’s decision is that UCLA has no clear-cut starter, just two quarterbacks who can’t even stand out as the best on their own team.
Both Prince and Brehaut threw more interceptions than touchdowns in 2010 as UCLA transitioned to a pistol offense, and neither topped 1,300 yards passing.
