Call it a future independent rivalry game, or maybe even a future Big 12 rivalry game if you're audacious, but there's something in the air between the No. 24 Texas Longhorns and BYU Cougars that makes this game feel special. It could just be that these two classic programs rarely play each other despite having similar goals -- though they're going about them in totally opposite fashions.
BYU Vs. Texas Game Time, TV Schedule, Spread And More
BYU enters Austin having taken down one BCS conference program on the road already this year, outlasting the Mississippi Rebels in Oxford. Texas pounded the Rice Owls at home, and I'll leave you to decide which of those is the more impressive. The AP voters seem to think beating Rice is something. All right.
The Cougs weren't able to accomplish a whole lot against Ole Miss on offense, producing only 316 total yards. They'll have to do better than that against a Texas team that fields superior talent and a superior defensive coordinator, Manny Diaz of Mississippi State fame. Malcolm Brown, hyped freshman Texas running back, scampered for 86 yards to lead a galloping herd of Horns (229 yards rushing) in Week One, but BYU allowed only 68 on the ground to the entire Rebels team.
