Boston College Football Players Wear Red Bandana Stickers To Honor 9/11 Hero Welles Crowther

Boston College will be wearing red bandana stickers in their games against UCF and Duke to honor 9/11 hero Welles Crowther

Across the country in both college football and NFL games this weekend, various teams are finding ways to honor the heroes and victims of 9/11 for the 10th anniversary of the tragedy. One of the most notable is the Boston College Eagles and the Central Florida Knights, who will honor Welles Crowther during their game. BC are wearing red bandana stickers on their helmets, while thousands of UCF fans will be wearing red bandanas as well.

Crowther is a 1999 BC graduate who was in the World Trade Center south tower when it was attacked on 9/11. Before passing away when the south tower collapsed, he guided reportedly a dozen people to safety from high floors in the building. He was known for wearing a red bandana while he played for the BC lacrosse team and was identified by victims that he helped to save by the bandana. ESPN did an Outside The Lines report on the story this week.

BC will also be honoring Crowther at next week’s home game against Duke. 6,000 red bandanas will be distributed to the student section and Crowther’s family has been invited to attend.
