No. 17 Ohio State Buckeyes bring their 2-0 record to South Florida face the 0-1 Miami Hurricanes in an on-field battle between two schools that spent much of their offseasons dealing with off-field scandals.
After Terrelle Pryor's abrupt exit for Columbus, the Buckeyes offense is quarterbacked by co-starters Joe Bauserman and freshman Braxton Miller. Bauserman has completed 28-of-46 pass attempts for 352 yards and four touchdowns in wins over Akron and Toledo, the latter of which the fifth-year senior played the whole game as a "dinged up" Miller was held out of action. Miller, who passed for 130 yards and a touchdown against Akron, is expected to play against the Hurricanes.
Linebackers Etienne Sabino (11 tackles, two sacks) and Andrew Sweat (11 tackles, one interception) spearhead the Buckeyes' defense that has nine quarterback sacks and has limited opponents to 5-of-29 on third-down conversions.
First-year head coach Al Golden and the Hurricanes are coming off a 32-24 loss to the Maryland Terrapins on September 5. The "U" is 63-21 in home-openers and 15-7 at Sun Life Stadium.
To beat the Buckeyes, the Hurricanes will need another good night from running back Lamar Miller (18 carries, 119 yards and a touchdown against Maryland) and a better performance from quarterback Stephen Morris, who completed nearly 68 percent of his 28 pass attempts, but was intercepted twice in the opener. Senior linebacker Ramon Buchanon (eight tackles, two for a loss) and junior safety Vaughn Telemaque (eight tackles, one interception) led the Hurricanes defense.
