LSU Vs. West Virginia Halftime Score: Tigers Pouncing On Mistakes

LSU Tigers cornerback Tyrann Mathieu is going to become the second straight Tigers defender to make noise as a Heisman dark horse. He wears the same number as Patrick Peterson did, too. After peeling off his seventh fumble recovery of the past two seasons in the first quarter, he tipped and grabbed Geno Smith pass and returned it to the West Virginia Mountaineers goal line.

Two plays later, Jarrett Lee zipped the ball into a tumbling Chase Clement's hands to push the score to 27-7, LSU. Oh, and Mathieu knocked down the half-ending hail mary.

The Tigers aren't completely dominating this game (WVU has more total yards and first downs), but they've made fewer whoopsies (one turnover to three) and have fixed themselves a terrific field position advantage. Your most valuable player tonight, besides Mathieu, might be Tigers punter Brad Wing, who's forced WVU into starting three drives within its own five.

On an earlier third-and-one, the entire WVU defense chomped (not just bit!) on a play fake that left Odell Beckham wide open for a 52-yard touchdown pass to make it 20-7. The Eers had just gotten on the board when Geno Smith found Stedman Bailey for a 20-yard score.

LSU's Craig Loston appeared to suffer a concussion when his head collided with Tavon Austin's hip during a punt return. He was able to walk off the field after showing medical personnel he was able to move his neck without difficulty.
