The No. 14 South Florida Bulls open up Big East play against the Pittsburgh Panthers on Thursday night.
The Bulls are 4-0 on the season, opening with a 23-20 win over Notre Dame in South Bend before winning three straight home games over Ball State, Florida A&M and UTEP by a combined score of 159-48. Junior quarterback B.J. Daniels, has completed 66.1 percent of his pass attempts for 1,071 yards and eight touchdowns with just one interception, with his preferred target being Sterling Griffin (22 receptions for 248 yards) through four weeks. Running backs Darrell Scott (348 yards, five touchdowns) and Demetri Murray (188 yards, two touchdowns) add balance to an offensive attack that has scored 126 points in the first half of games this season.
Weak side linebacker DeDe Lattimore (21 tackles, one sack, one interception) leads an opportunistic Bulls defense that has created 13 turnovers this season.
The Panthers, who are coming off back-to-back losses to Iowa and Notre Dame, are led by junior tailback Ray Graham, who has 508 yards and six touchdowns on the ground and leads the team with 21 receptions out of the backfield. Seniors Brandon Lindsey (17 tackles, three quarterback sacks) and Max Gruder (35 tackles, three for a loss) spearhead a defense that limited the Irish to just 15 points last weekend.
