Michigan WR Darryl Stonum Dismissed From Team

Michigan Wolverines wide receiver Darryl Stonum was dismissed from the program Tuesday for “a violation of team rules.”

Michigan Wolverines senior wide receiver Darryl Stonum was dismissed from the program by Brady Hoke Tuesday for "a violation of team rules."

It was a third strike that did Stonum in. He was released from jail on Saturday after violating his probation from a second drunk-driving conviction last year. According to the court records, he lied to his probation officer about driving a car, which he is not allowed to do since his license has been revoked.

The drunk-driving conviction he is on probation for was the second he received while at Michigan.

Stonum sat out the 2011 season as a redshirt due to his probation.

Brady Hoke released a statement Tuesday:

“I love Darryl and wish him nothing but the absolute best. However, there is a responsibility and a higher standard you must be accountable to as a University of Michigan football student-athlete. That does not and will not change. It’s unfortunate, because I believe he has grown a great deal as a person since the beginning of the season. My hope is that maturing process continues.”

Stonum started 25 games at Michigan, hauling in 76 passes for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns. He also holds the school’s single-season kickoff-return record with 39 returns for 1,001 yards in 2009.
