East-West Shrine Game 2012 Score Update: B.J. Coleman Impressive For East Squad Who Leads 10-0 After First Quarter

After one quarter at Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay, the East squad leads the West in the 2012 edition of the Shrine game. The East team marched down the field on a five-play touchdown drive that lasted less than three minutes.

B.J. Coleman has been perfect for the East so far, as the Tennessee-Chattanooga quarterback has hit six of six attempts for 136 yards. The big play of the touchdown drive was a pretty Coleman pass down the middle of the field to Chase Ford from Miami. He lofted it right down the middle and Ford broke a tackle to rumble for 64 yards. Ford had a quiet season for the Hurricanes but his catch has been the highlight of the first quarter so far.

Just two plays later, Coleman hit B.J. Cunningham from Michigan State for a 17-yard touchdown. Cunningham is a big strong back, and he took the short pass in the flat, turned the corner and broke right through a tackle to take it down the sideline for the score.

For the West team, the once highly-touted Marc Tyler of Southern Cal has been impressive out of the backfield. He has four carries and is averaging better than seven yards per rush through the first quarter.
