2012 Capital One Bowl, Nebraska Vs. South Carolina: Gamecocks Post Best Record In School History

No. 10 South Carolina Gamecocks shook off a slow start to beat the the No. 21 Nebraska Cornhuskers 30-13 in the 2012 Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Florida.

South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw completed 11-of-17 pass attempts for 230 yards and two touchdowns, including a 51-yard strike to Alshon Jeffery in the second quarter that proved to be the winning points. Jeffery caught four passes for 148 yards, earning Most Valuable Player honors despite being ejected in the third quarter after getting into a scrap with Alonzo Dennard.

With the win, South Carolina improved to 11-2, the best record in school history. Head coach Steve Spurrier is looking for more.

We’re a happy bunch of guys,” Spurrier said. “Like I told the guys, next year’s team, they’ll try to win 12 because 11 already happened, so we’ll have some new goals next year.”

Cornhuskers head coach Bo Pelini felt his team was the better one on Monday, but just couldn’t get out of its own way.

“I mean, how do you explain it?” Pelini said. “Whether (we) got rattled, I don’t know. … If we take care of our business, you know, you can’t give a good football team the amount of things we gave South Carolina today.”
